How to correct a politician who lies on TV

Great video from Nerdwriter about how we can combat lies from politicians using the medium they are spewed on. In this particular case, it's television. Amazingly to me, most Americans still get their news from television (HUH?!) and when a politician lies, it's easy for the politician to squeeze out of it but often hard for the viewer to decipher truth from fiction.

Moderators are also very bad at exposing lies on TV without getting into a verbal argument (it's not the purpose of a debate or forum after all) so Nerdwriter suggests that television networks work harder on making on-screen graphics a regular thing of debates. When a politician lies, even if the moderator calls them out on it, the television network should put on screen the relevant numbers or statements (or links!) that directly reveal the sham. If Americans are getting their news from TV, it might just work to get people a little more educated.

But please, c'mon, let's turn the TV off, huh?
