I obviously don't remember when the Concorde went into service, but I do vaguely remember the time it went out of service. It was not too long after a tragic Concorde crash, Air France Flight 4590, which resulted in the loss of the plane as well as all passenger and crew on board. I haven't read a lot about the Concorde so I just assumed the discontinuation of Concorde flights was due to this crash. That's not completely true. While the crash certainly had something to do with it, the decision to stop Concorde flights was due to a number of things like financial viability, noise, and a slumping airline industry after 9/11.
I wish Concorde or something like it would come back though. Flying NY to London in 3.5 hours sounds amazing. And if they ever find out supersonic flight over land without all the noise, a 3.5-hour or less flight from NY to LA would be awesome too.
Also, can we just take a moment and look at the insane cockpit interior layout of the Concorde? O_O!
